Beginning of Week 2: Assignment 4

Me in town! There definitely is some lack of light in this picture. But behind my barely visible face, you can see green areas that are lit up so beautifully. This was a few meters away from the roundabout right under the famous Pearl Tower in Shanghai. The great beauty in the lit up green area behind me was my main source of inspiration for this assignment.

This is nearby the Pearl Tower. I want to light the flowers on the roundabout (please find reason below, after the series of photos I took).

The reasons why I would love to light the flowers on the roundabout are: the strategic nature of the place, the natural psychological power of flowers, the fact that their current lighting is mediocre in my eyes.
It is commonplace that flowers have an immense psychological power which translates itself often by how they can make normal humans joyful. At least speaking for myself, I love flowers and their brighten up my days. Moreover, I am much more attracted to the presence of bright colors in them. Given such a fact, how about the art of lighting tapped into that immense potential, in order to make flowers even more psychologically powerful and helpful during the day, but also less dull at night? On a roundabout situated right under the Pearl Tower and the Bottle Opener -which have breathtaking light animations at night- aren’t we missing out on harmony and beauty, by having such dull flowers at night? My answer is “yes”! Lighting the roundabout’s flowers would be such candy to the eye, and draw so much more tourists to the are, while arguably making anybody who will be passing by that area happier than they were before the sight of such colorful animated beauty. The project would ultimately be the demonstration of the power of art when in comes to leveraging untapped natural opportunities to psychologically uplift humans (please see below image as a simpler example of what I am envisioning).
